When I bought a new pc, microsoft office 2003 came with it already set up, on a free trial, this free trial has now ended and I don't want to buy it.
I bought microsoft works 8 at the same time as I bought my pc but for some reason I cannot use word and anything associated with word ... word is now locked, and all my saved documents are locked too and this happened because of the microsoft office 2003 trial ending.
How do I use word in works 8 - help?

Have you tried loading Works and doing File > Open - it should then open your Word files.0

I have just put the first cd in (there are 5 of them) and it shows me everything I have installed, including word and the only thing it lets me do is remove what I've installed.0

I mean clicking on the icon for Works - there should be one on the desktop or in the start menu.0

Ive done this, everything I go into is locked which is associated with word or won't let me do anything?0

Is Office completely removed?
If not try Start > (Settings >*) Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and choose Remove for Microsoft Office.
* Only some versions of Windows0 -
I haven't removed the office... is this why I can't access works word? If I do remove the office, will it leave my documents behind?0

It should do. I would be very surprised if it didn't. How many documents are there?
You could copy them to a CD just to be sure.0 -
I have lots of files and documents.0

Download OpenOffice - this has the ability to open any Word documents and it is free!0

You need to go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Office Trial.
If word still doesn't work You will need to Uninstall Works8 and reinstall it though you could try reinstalling without uninstalling Works first.
Because the Office trial also contains Word it would only accept 1 version on your PC and now the trial has run out, so has Word. There is also a possibility that after uninstalling the Office trial that remnants will be left to stop you rerunning the trial and this could stop you running Word again. If this is the case your only answer will probably be to contact Microsoft for a work around.
Open Office will only work if it is Word that is locked and not the documents.0
