I wasn't at all nervous until I read on the Sky website that if Iceland were to go bankrupt, then the first £16,000 would not be covered by the UK scheme. I have exactly this amount in Icesave - my whole life savings. I can't work through disability, so this is a massive issue for me - I hope that Martin can make the UK powers at be realise how worried savers are and get some clarification.0

I have also just seen Martin on Channel 4 news and I think it is so unfair that the presenter was trying to make out as if he has made people move their money to IceSave. Martin has always been totally clear about the risks, and I think people just assumed that these banks would never go under.
Please carry on the good work Martin, I have learnt so much from you!!0 -
Just seen Martin on C4 news, with Jon Snow doing his best to make him look guilty of giving bad advice: without success!0

Good job defending yourself versus Jon Snow!0

I know I'm risking turning this into a Martin Fan Club (though perhaps it's already -- deservedly -- one, anyway?) but re Channel 4 News tonight:
Jon Snow has been, and remains, one of the best journalists on TV. Bar none. And Channel 4 News, still arguably the best news media on TV.
Snow's interviewing technique has always -- always -- been to be combative, not supine, questioning, rather than accepting. And thank God for that.
In his dealings tonight with Martin, Jon was exactly as he should be.
And Martin was exactly as he should be: nothing to apologise for; nothing to defend; nothing to have second thoughts about.
He managed the interview -- which he would have known inadvance was not going to be a "Breakfast Show" juvenilia walk-over, so even more credit to him -- with exactly the right level of precise, detailed and honest responses.
Though I suppose I'd better admit, I do know Mr Snow -- and so perhaps my high regard for him is, slightly, biased -- I don't know Martin at all.
Both of them were at their best tonight -- with Martin, as ever, remaining a dependable constancy, fresh-faced, unambiguous, and as open and as objective an individual as it's possible to find.
As I said earlier in this thread, Martin has nothing to apologise for in anything he has said / recommended / advised on MSE. And where Channel 4 News tonight was concerned, he more than consolidated that position.
Well done, Mr Lewis!:beer:0 -
Like everyone else, I just watched Martin on Channel 4 news and can't believe the way Jon Snow went after him. I know he has a history of pretty confrontational interviews, but he just didn't seem to know all the facts this time (I hope it was just due to a technical hiccup that he couldn't read the name of this website). This was a good opportunity to ask relevant questions of Martin, which would have helped ease some people's anxiety, but instead he decided to try for a sensational interview. Very dissapointed with Channel 4 and just hope that no-one watching really believes that Martin is to blame.0

I have just over £10000.00 in an icesave isa and although it may appear pessimistic I will be suprised if I ever see any of it again . Rather more worryingly I tried to withdraw the remaining balance of my Kaupthing Edge account by chaps at 12.30 today and it hasn't arrived in my linked account. The only glimmer of hope as I see it is that if the government let icesave customers money disappear without trace how will this look to customers of other banks which may be seen as vunerable.0

NO, that is not quite correct. The first 21000 Euros will come from Iceland, and the UK system will top up the rest, but you SHOULD get it ALL (up to 50K). You will make one claim through the UK system, and they will write to all Icesave customers telling you what to do.
Try not to panic. If you have anything up to £50K in Icesave you should get it back.0 -
This has been an inevitable consequence. Whilst many have no doubt taken advantage of the Martins' bank charges blag and voucher loop-holes, when it comes to investments and savings Martin is no Mary Archer.0

I have around £2600 in an ISA with Icesave.
What do I do to get my money back?0
