  • Hi,

Have seen Gumbies Ewe Boots advertised at snugglebug-direct.com
Look like a nice (& less expensive!) alternative to the Ugg. Suede with wool lining. Anyone have any thoughts.

    Thanks in advance

Hi I have just received classic tall ugg boots from my-wardrobe.com for £146 delivered as I used a code to get a £50 discount my friend told me about - cowshed. Service and delivery were great - you can nominate the day (cost £5.95 going up to £6.50 on Sunday I think).

Sorry if this has been posted here before. I looked back but didn't see it. This is my first post - love this forum.

btw checked on Uggaustralia.com that my-wardrobe.com is authorised seller

I've not tried any variations on other Ugg brands myself, but I would be careful as even if they are a huge saving, there are reasons that people prefer Uggs -they do seem to be a better quality of boot, on many brnads, they flop over to one side, (the reason they do this is to do with over/under pronation of your feet, its not something you have to know, but because it happens you need to ensure your boots are well made and can support the daily pressure of you leaning inwards/outwards as you walk).

Its safe to say that few Ugg style boots are strong enough and the result is boots that flop sideways and look bad, feel uncomfortable and eventually are unwalkable in.

Also, theres the quality of the sheepskin. Sheepskin is a natural product, and some sheepskin is simply better quality then others. If the sheepskin is poor quality it could stretch too much whilst wearing, may not withstand the rain in the same way (may go hard and become uncomfortable) and may not look as good. Then thers the softness of the wool......

And then theres the craftsmanship- although Uggs are made in China, it doesn't mean they are poorly made. (Not all factories in China are naff quality! infact many catwalk/high fashion designers have their garments made in China now). But basicly to say that if the boots are not made well, they may fall apart, of you may find the leather/suede on one boot is different on the left to the right, the thread on the stiching may not be strong enough....there are many things to consider!

I would view everything with caution. There are quite a few boots which are similar in quality to Ugg Australia, but there are also far more that are just not there. I think there is another Ugg thread on MSE where people had been buying other Ugg style brands and have had good/bad reports and it may be worth a read.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=532039 but it is such a mindfield! Personally I'm waiting untill I can either can afford a new pair (mine are now over 5 years old- though still going strong!) or have given up and gone for a brnad that others have tried and tested- my number one bugbear being Uggs that flop over to the side!

  • Thanks for your info jenniewb,

Had heard that some boots are prone to the heel 'rolling'. The Gumbies Ewe boots have a reinforced heel to prevent this. I recently saw a friend who had some and was very pleased with them - nice suede and good stitching. Think I'll give them a try. Obviously not Uggs but I like the design and what with the 'credit crunch' etc!!

    Many thanks again.

I bought black ones from snugglebug and I wish I hadn't. They are very stiff and can't be worn without socks because the next time you go to wear them they are cold and soaking inside, does anyone know why this is happening? The merino wool is cheap quality compared to the Emu boots I have and the outside is cow suede not sheep, don't waste your money!
