But as I said, no-one knew they were dodgy at the time.
I'm not sure why you think Martin should have known when no-one else in the country did?
I certainly thought they were safe, I had £35K in there at one point.0 -

Because its not in Britain and hence the Icelandic government is much less inclined to worry about foreign savers than local ones.
And now you don't have any money in Icesave and can afford to feel smug about those of us who do. How would you feel if you had potentially lost your £35k as I may have done.0 -

Calm down & stop being an idiot.
I may not have money in Icesave but my brother has so I'm extremely keen to see savers get their money back. And nothing I've said has been smug.
You are obviously worried but rather than lash out at everyone around you I suggest you wait to see what tomorrow's announcements are. If you are under the £35K/£50K limit there's still an excellent chance that you'll get all of your money back.
I know other people with 6 figures in Icesave. They are the ones with real problems.0 -

The little toerags at Icesave in Newcastle even tried to suggest if you opened more than one account with them that you were covered for £35k on each one. I knew that was a complete lie but apparently they fooled several people in to believing them.
And they never mentioned the first £16k protection being dependent on the health of the piddly Icelandic government.0 -
Most bank staff are clueless IMO. It's not deception, they just don't know how to do their job.
Like I said, these are worrying times but as long as you're under the limit it's still overwhelmingly likely that you'll get your money back. There's an Election coming up, Labour will not want to risk p1ssing off 300,000 voters.0 -
Re the original post-Just how many time were you told DONT exceed the £35,000, (no £50,000) Limit?????????0

Icesave staff were misrepresenting the guarantee scheme, and the security it offers.
That is blatant deception!
And that scale of criminality goes to the heart of the bank.
The goons at Icesave were trained to lie.
Why are you defending the bank's staff?........"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
