Cleaning steel kitchen appliances

Hi,

We have just had a new kitchen fitted and have gone for the brushed steel affect appliances ie cooker/hob/extracor although it does look great it does show up fingerprints/grease and dirty very easily. I'm unsure what to clean them with as I dont want to put any chemicals on them and make a mess. Are there any special cleaning products that can be bought or is it a case of warm water?

Thanks,

Pete.
I'll get me coat!

Use glass spray cleaners, Windolene do one, I think.

I use a product called Novaclear, 5ltrs for £8 from local contract cleaner suppliers, on glass & the glossy kitchen units.

If you've a sealed surface Mer car polish is very good, too .

Can these be used effectively on brushed matt stainless steel too though??
  • I buy Buster stainless steel cleaner from Wilkinson in a spray bottle, and its quite good for cleaning painful stainless steel appliances that mark up. Only cheap as well!
  • My missus says baby oil works a treat (for cleaning stainless steel).
  • Teerah,I use Buster on matt/brushed/shiny stainless steel hope this helps.

Baby oil good for shining up appliance not necessarily deep cleansing
  • I have used baby oil to clean brushed stainless steel in the kitchen and it worked really well, leaving a lovely sheen.

I used a tiny amount on some kitchen roll and the kitchen roll ended up black, which presumably was all the dirt from the steel. I don't suppose it would remove burnt on stains, etc though.

Not used it myself but quite a few people have recommended to me Bar Keepers Friend
  • oz kitchen cleaner, or if you really dont want chemicals - white vinegar (yes it does stink for a little while but it works!) - oh yes a LITTLE amount of baby oil on a kitchen towel will give you a good shine but please use it sparingly, my misses lathered it on the fridge/freezer once and made a right mess

Baby Oil works a treat. Mrs Funky uses regularly on our stainless steel American fridge.

Use ecloths. They are recommended by all the manufacturers of stainless stell kitchen equipment. They will shine it up nicely.
