Help needed.
I have recently signed onto JSA because my contract ended and I haven't been able as yet to find a job... My husband has left me and I have a 4 year old son whom is in nursery because I didn't want to remove him from there because it was unfair, but also when and if i get another job I wouldn't get my place back.
So I was thinking what financial help if any I can get? my working tax credits have stopped and I am struggling on the JSA and nursery bills, and bills...
Job centre are always really unhelpful
If you know what help I could get I would be really grateful.
Thanks

Hi,
As far as benefits go, it sounds as though you are getting everything you are entitled to.
Are you getting Child Tax Credits for your son, because they should help to pay for childcare?
And are you getting maintenance from your ex?0 -
im not 100% sure....but should you not be entitled to something towards your rent/mortgage from housing benefit?Carla-Farla!!

I'd go and discuss it all with your Lone Parent Adviser at the Jobcentre; they should be able to do all the relevant calculations for you.0

You would not be entitled to your nursery fees paid by child tax credits as the above poster has stated. You should be entitled to some free sessions from the goverment, I think it is around 10 hoursish. Other then that you would not be entitled to the rest of your nursery fees paid, unless you got a job and was working over 16 hours then you would be entitled to Working tax credit, depending on your incme, and maybe entitled to the childcare element. Help with rent would be through the local Council.
Help with mortgage interest would be via Income Support from the DWP.0 -
Have you phoned tax credits and told them you're no longer a couple? They should pass you to a new claims team who can set up a claim for you over the telephone...and have you informed them you're on JSA now? People with children, on JSA (income based as opposed to contributions based), get the highest CTC award available. This should help a considerable amount, although because of loss of WTC, it won't be quite as high as your previous total award.0
