Scottish Power won't let me go!
Options
I have a business electricity account with Scottish Power. They sent me a letter a couple of months ago offering to freeze my leccy prices if I signed up for a 3 year contract. I meant to shop around at that point, but never got round to it and forgot about the letter. I've just had my latest bill, and they've increased my prices and my direct debit by about 20%. I phoned them to complain and said I wanted to possibly change suppliers, but they say I am now locked in for a year's contract because I didn't respond to the earlier letter (this apparently was in the small print). Are they allowed to do this, and can they stop me leaving?

Yes...as they say it's in the small print (probably).
This is common with most business power supply contracts - you need to give notice before the end of the year (period specified in the contract) else the contract is renewed for a further year."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
