I have to confess Carbonel, we have not involved the OT much. Not because we are cynical, its probably just we have never thought of it. They have provided some equipment in the past. Some of it has been useful, others not so useful. But mum was gratful anyway.
She has lots of friends (male and female), so the day centre is not something she would need at the moment, but thanks anyway for the idea. She has not tried bingo, but I am sure she would give it a go! Like most things, she will try anything!!
EdIvestor, I do like the ivory chair, and I think mum may also.
She did have a look at the brochure for HSL chairs, but she thought that they were all too "geriatric".
She does have lots of visitors, and she wants them to feel comfortable she says, and not like they are visiting a hospital.
Can I ask which furniture shop you used luxor4T?
Someone told me yesterday that you can buy the chair you want, and then go to any furniture shop, and they will recover it to match any 3 piece you buy. I think this is the way she may go. It will take some time however, as she will have to look around when she gets home.
I may go ahead and order the "type" she needs (with the advice from the OT) for when she gets home, and then when she is up to it, she can order a 3 piece and get it recovered in a less institutional, and geriatric fabric.
If I can get some qualified nursing care to stay with us I may be able to get her out sooner rather than later. I cannot manage the drips, monitering etc. It needs someone who knows a lot more than I do. She used to be a GP before she became disabled, so she would keep me right I suppose, but I would prefer someone qualified there just in case.

My mum bought a special chair for my grandmother when she needed it some years ago. I think she went to Barker and Stonehouse, but I do not know how long it took. She got the one that someone in the hospital told her to get, and got the chair covered to match the new settee.
Like you mum, my grandmother said she "didn't want old womens furniture in HER home" (she was nearly 90 when she said that!!!)
Snowbird, looking at a couple of your posts, are you absoloutly sure that your mum does not qualify for AA.
There is someone on the disablility board who says he is a decision maker for AA/DLA who may be able to tell you better than I could.
I do agree with you though, AA is awarded not on diagnosis, but on NEED, so one person could cope far better than another in similar circumstances.
If your mum is quite young in outlook etc, it is likely that she is able to cope better.
AA could be worth a try though.
Sorry I could not be that much help with the chair, but all I know is, that it can be done.
