Landisbanki Guernsey has gone into receivership

http://www.landsbanki.co.gg/

And guess where I had some of my money :(

I don't know what to do or if I'll get anything back.

I thought Icelandic was the way to go after reading on here a few months ago. I'm glad I didn't put all my savings in there, but am still so upset this morning.

This may not be such a bad thing - it could help the organisation really turn themselves around, that's what I'm hoping for at least.

  • It was a few months ago. But as you have no doubt seen on TV, things are changing rapdily, and a few months is a lifetime right now for finances.

Not to scare monger, but Iceland was on the bbc as being shown as a country that actually can't afford to bail out it's 2 biggest banks. Some of it's banks are bigger than it's economy.

Hopefully someone will step in and ensure savers don't lose out. As this will be damaging to the worlds finance's, so they may just be forced to step in to try and reassure people that no savers will lose out.

Advice to everyone else, check where your money is and ensure it's protected under the FSA. BUT DON'T PANIC AND START WITHDRAWING ALL YOUR MONEY AS THATS JUST STUPID AND CAUSES MORE ISSUES. Withdrawing your money and then having it at home or something else stupid like that, is probably the quickest way to lose it. So unless you want to fund your local burglars xmas, I suggest you use some common sense.

Points 4 and 10 on their website aren't all doom and gloom. So you shouldn't lose everything. Fingers crossed.

most of our savings are in icesave fixed rate bonds, from 6 months to 1 year and in varying amounts. Last expiry is in august 2009. We have to top up my little pension with savings so need sustained cashflow for the next 4 years

I am concerned re icesave but not worried. I removed just a few k from my icesave current account just in case, but there is no point in worrying as the rest of the money is protected. They must have a huge number of savers with locked fixed rate accounts and that will help all of us

REYKJAVIK, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Iceland has dismissed the board of directors of Landsbanki and has put the Icelandic bank in receivership, a minister told state radio on Tuesday. Commerce and banking minister Bjorgvin Sigurdsson said the move was made in cooperation with Landsbanki and the bank would be open and run as normal while the changes were taking place. Sigurdsson said Iceland’s Financial Supervisory Authority had put its own people in place of the bank’s board. Late Monday, Iceland adopted sweeping powers over its battered banks as its financial system tottered and its currency plunged.

I have on some threads but I think they already know now as it has just been on the news now. I cant keep up with the new threads...there seems to be an element of new posters who are driving the panic.

Apparently Iceland's FSA has taken control of Landsbanki:
