Easiest way to get a switch card account?

Options
I need another switch card - I have a HSBC account with one, but would like a seperate account for personal reasons.

I have a nationwide flex account and will apply today for a debit card but believe they will reject me as they have done on previous occasions.

I won't be paying a salary into it, and will probably have £100 or £200 flowing through it each month, sometimes more and sometimes less. Any ideas on which bank is most likely to accept me on these conditions?

Edit: also, online access is very important, so it should have a good online banking system.

My experience with HSBC was that they are unwilling to give you more than one bank account. I went to switch to them a couple of years back and they wouldn't replicate the two accounts I have at Natwest.
So I didn't change to them.

Just walk into another bank and open an account with them. It shouldn't be too difficult unless you have bad history?
Not asking for an overdraft obviously a big plus.

Really? I just called them up on Telephone Banking, told them I wanted another account and they did the application for me. Just had to go into the branch to sign the forms and I was away. FWIW, I used the "borrowing needs" option on the TB main menu, option 6 I think.
  • We've just opened two accounts with HSBC with no problems.
I'm not small. I'm just far away.

    Yep.
I was a new customer, fresh off the street wanting to open two accounts with them. One would be my wage acount and another to manage my vehicles fund.
That was the explaination I gave them and they said that they'd be unable to give me a second account but would I still like to open the one

It struck me as being a little silly at the time, however I have a friend who banks with one of the Scottish banks who has had trouble trying to get a second account, tho he does have an overdraft and I'd imagine exceeds it.
  • I would imagine that it's because you were a new customer, as you say; if you decided to go over your limit, return payments etc then two accounts would give you twice the scope to do that. They'd probably mind less if you weren't an unknown quantity to them ;)

Yeah. Their loss tho. I was wanting to transfer a bunch of money in at the same time and my wages. I thanked them and went elsewhere.
    C'est la vie!
