When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Hi to any new posters and a big shout to the usual gang:j
Today I will:
Catch up with you all later, need to grab the shower before my DD hogs the bathroom:rolleyes:

Put on low wash and hang it out in newly discovered drying cupboard (a cupboard with a radiator underneath drying racks - was behind a few boxes whoopps)

Check out flights for xmas hols (kids away to Daddy's me and OH thinking of visiting rellies in LA only need flights - OH paying woo hoo)

Plan month of work with pesky two weeks of school holidays from Friday
Email pal about coming to stay (cheap holiday) in Oct for a few days

Morning everyone

As expected, this week has been a bit of a tight one. I don't get paid until a week on Friday but I've had a bit of a naughty month.
I'm going to the Mighty Boosh after show party tonight and the actual gig tomorrow so that means two naughty drinking trips. Plus I realised I hadn't got anything to wear so had to go spending last night.
Couple that naughty spending with the screen cracking on my mobile phone at the weekend and me booking a hotel room for a trip away with the lads which I haven't been paid for yet... it's all a bit eek. Oh, and my cat has been attacked by next door's cat again... which might mean a trip to the vets once she's calmed down and let me look at her properly.
Don't think I'll be going out for the meal I wanted at the weekend!
Anyway, today I have:
* had breakfast at home and brought dinner in to work
* checked banking, apart from the balance, that's all ok
* checked for surveys and ordered an Amazon voucher from Toluna
* received my bank statement, but do I really want to open a KE account?
Today I will:
* get scratched to bits trying to look at the poorlies on my cat
* put some washing on - 30 degrees and dry in the house seeing as the heating is on
* utilise as many of the Wetherspoons vouchers as I can get away with to have a relatively cheap night out today and tomorrow
* look sparkly and fabulous
* try and stay sober in order to get up for work tomorrow!
Have a good day everyone... I think mine is going to be busy, busy, busy!0 -
Morning guys,
Today i have/will:
* Have a NSD
* Take my dvd back to blockbusters so i don't get a fine
* Checked online banking, everything is on track
* Checked piggy points
* Checked my review points, and must write 2 more reviews today
Have a great Tuesday everyone xx0 -
Morning all
Well, my slow cooker whole chicken went a bit wrong yesterday - still hadn't cooked after 10 hours in the slow cooker so ended up finishing it in the oven at 9pm after the gym, but past being hungry at that time! Oh well, guess what I've got in my sandwiches today :rotfl:
Today I have/shall:
• Check online banking - still money in there which makes a change!
• Done another survey online for 110 points
• Check still on target for monthly budget
• Bring breakfast and lunch (chicken sandwich anyone??!!!) to work
• Storecupboard/freezer dinner tonight
• Do wash on economy setting - will have to machine-dry though as running out of clean gym kit!
• Use free gym membership tonight
• Use some more blackberries picked by my lovely parents, and apple from my auntie's garden.
• Check Quidco/clicks/enter a few comps online
• Charging my phone at work
• Another NSD for me
• Try and make veggie soup tonight from veg we already have, as didn't get to it last night what with the chicken fiasco... :rotfl:
Think that's all for today - have a great day all xx0 -
Hello everyone
Thanks as always to Sophiesmum for setting us up for the day, this is my favourite thread!
Oh Norton what an excellent list item, if it's alright with you I'm adding it to mine "look sparkly and fabulous":rotfl::rotfl:
Will try the "look sparkly and fabulous" look when I go to confess at the library that I've lost a book, heaven knows what I've done with it. I knew all that housework last Thursday was a bad idea, bet I've thrown it away
My list as usual is bordering on pathetic, but here goes...
look sparkly and fabulous
come to work
bought in breakfast and lunch
started a loaf in the breadmaker
posted an Amazon sale
paid another £10 off the saddle fund - now at £212.05Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
Total debt today: £0 - debt and mortgage free 29th November 2013 :T

Morning all!
Today I will be...
1. Signing my new loan agreement, saving me nearly £312 over the duration of the loan. That knocked my outstanding debt from over £4000 to £3932.21 - that psychological boost of seeing the outstanding amount going from over £4k to seeing a number starting with '3' is amazing and has inspired me to cut back on other things too!
2. Taking food to work. All part of me not spending anything in work any more. So far, so good! Probably some sort of chicken pasta dish today.
3. I am doing 3 hours of overtime at work today, so that will be a nice boost to the pay packet.
4. I will make a quick claim on phone insurance tonight - my phone keeps dying on me and the back of it snapped a few days ago. :-(
5. I will contact Barclaycard to see if they have a decision over my credit card application as of yet. Hoping they come back with a good offer, otherwise I will take up the HSBC offer.
6. Will change bank accounts away from HSBC premier and ask for a fee-free account. I pay £6.42 for benefits I never use!Debt at LBM - £7992.46
Current Debt - £6218.56
So far - 22.2% of debt paid off!0 -
Hi everyone, some positive stuff on here already today. This is def my favourite thread too, I am a proper saddo and wait in the queue in shops excited about posting my saving/bargain find etc on here when I get home.
Today I plan to
- phone work and tell them I am going back next week after recent bout of sickness
- going to meet a friend in town, we will probably have coffee, but will try not to have food, she is skint so shouldnt be a problem
- going to only buy things off my list when in town
- I WILL photo stuff for ebay today, been putting this off all week
- I got a bargain few days away for a few weeks time, will buy travel guide in town and read up on my destination, plan where to go, how ot save money when I am there etc
- only eat food that is in
-post some stuff, one ebay sale I did for a friend and some stuff that might help me get more sales for my business
Will update later0 -
Thanks Norton blade and Piquant - sparkly idea!!
I have two books in the car that are v overdue - you have just reminded me - is it possible to copy you all and look sparkly and fabulous in a waterproof jacket and a wooly hat whilst returning them???? - I may well try it!!
EWrgh about the chicken DFSD!!
Drinking real coffee (indulgent) and trying to be productive
My theory is the cost of the coffee should make me more effective and then I won't be booted off my phd (which is paid) therefore the expense of the coffee is actually a saving (ie saving my job!!) - you got find logic in there somewhere - have fun will pop on and off to keep self sane and allow this to be my reward!!
Have fun today - Excuse the madness, writing words sensibley is hard and hurts my brain.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

That's definitely a slow cooker you've got there DFSD :rotfl:guess they don't come any slower!
Fay, I believe you can get sparkly wooly hats, very glam! otherwise, bits of tin foil might do the trick, on the other hand, they may not...
I still drink good coffee, I've tried the cheaper alternatives and just don't like them, I like the idea that it's a saving thing, saving the job is probably the most important saving of all in the current climate - well done Fay for pointing this out!Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
Total debt today: £0 - debt and mortgage free 29th November 2013 :T
