Hi,
Last week I purchased a 80Gb OEM hard drive from ebuyer, but I did not realise that it did not come with an IDE cable. I have now bought an IDE cable from a local computer shop, but do I need anything else to connect it with (power supply lead, ect...). I am planning on setting it up tonight so a quick response would be great.
Please note: this is a second hard drive, not a replacement.
Many Thanks
Jonny

Hi again,
Do you need a power cable to install a new hard drive.0 -
Here's a site with FAQs that will help you generally.
http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/index_faq.html
Three specifics to be aware of....
1. The new hard drive will need power from somewhere. Ususally one of the power cables leading from the internal PSU.
2. If you are installing it as a secondary hard drive on the main/primary IDE cable the disk will need to be attached to the second connection along that cable.
3. You will need to know the setting for the jumper (that tiny plastic piece at the back of the hard drive). This link will give you some pictures on this aspect.....

As you got it OEM do you know about any other installation aspects such as formatting it?
Hope this helps.0 -
yeah, on the seagate website I am using discwizard, thanks for your help0
