Is anyone still waiting for tax credits?

My OH applied for tax credits in May and still hasn't heard back. He keeps phoning and being told that it's 'awaiting award' and being dealt with by another team, but that there's nothing they can do to speed things up. I think that either it's got stuck in their system and isn't coming out of workflow to be looked at, or the 'team' in question is benefit fraud. They are still collecting a previous overpayment from him but he is perfectly entitled this year! I think he was just late notifying a change in circumstances last time.

I just wondered if anyone else has been experiencing genuine delays or works for them and knows they are behind? Or is there something fishy going on?

I'm going to help him draw up a written complaint in the hope that will trigger a response from the right team.

That does seem a long time-I have never waited more than 2 weeks. Hopefully one of those 'in the know' can advise you.

    Hello Che75,

What was the reason for ending the previous claim and making a new claim?

    Hi Hotblu

He was previously in receipt of tax credits but then went back into full time education. As of March this year he's back in full time perm work so re-claimed. He's paying back an overpayment slowly, and has been doing so for about a year.
  • it'll have flagged up he was in previous claim and they'll be sorting that out and making sure previous claim is ended properly
also, this is a joint claim, is it?

We put in a tax credits claim when my son was born, still nothing....................

......................He is six month's old in a couple of weeks.

Good job we are not on the breadline or we would probably be homeless right now.

No, it's not a joint claim. We are not married or living together as if.
