Using a Wii (bought in England) in Australia

Hi, I usually post in the Arms, but have a quick question. I am buying my (10 year old) ds a Wii for Christmas, but we will be spending Christmas in Australia with my brother and his fiancee. Will my ds be able to play with his Wii in Oz? Or will he have to open it and then wait until we get home (Jan 3rd 2009) to play with it?
If he'll have to wait until we get home, I'm thinking (in true MSE style) that I may be better off buying it in either the duty free shop on the way home or in the January sales... (He will, obviously have other prezzies to open on the day and I'd give him a 'special' card with an IOU for a Wii, with an explanation).
