EAs have some blame for the house price escalation. They suggested asking prices which were too high, got mortgage deals which some buyers couldn't really afford and encouraged buyers to buy now before the price rise. But sellers were exremely happy to get all that money for their home and buyers threw caution to the wind.

When there was the price crash of early 90s, the Valuation Office Agency did have vacancies for redundant EAs and CT banding kept a few more employed in their own offices for a few months. NOT this time round though.

I wouldn't argue that EAs have had a good 10 yrs. If they were sensible hopefully they will have saved a bit to help them through the bad years. But even though the more prudent of us realised the house price spiral would stop, I doubt we expected it to reverse quite so much.

Unless an individual is totally incompetent or blatantly dishonest, then it is not fair that anyone loses their job.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

This affection for estate agents who routinely lie and cheat is quite touching, really it is.

No, some of us feel sorry for people who've done a decent day's work and lost their business, regardless of whether they were estate agents, travel agents or secret agents! If they've been dishonest then no, nobody would feel any great sympathy.

Your argument goes 'I know there are some dishonest agents, therefore all agents are dishonest.' Try substituting the words 'priest' and 'paedophile' and you'll see that works quite well too. There are also Muslims, Jews, black people in general........but I'm sure you've got the idea by now.

Haha, you call a decent days' 'work' telling porkie pies to vendors and prospective buyers alike. I'd love to live in your world, it must be great, the rest of us have to live in the real world unfortunately

Here's one here, I suppose that was a decent days' work?

Not long ago EA were making lots of dosh sat on the backsides most of the day because houses sold themselves, all they had to do was take a picture, measurements, print out it out and Bobs you uncle. Some didn't even go to house to sell it they relied on the home owner, and oh yes I was there and at both sides of the fence, selling and buying my 2nd home in 06

Home builders dont get my sympathy either, the employee does but many of them made lots of money same as BTL people did before bubble bust.

No I don't live in your simplistic, 'black & white' world. You really don't get it, do you? Of course there are thousands of sleazy agents; I haven't denied that. I could give you some prime examples of dodgy dealing that I've come across personally. So what?

And, yes, it is 'great' in my non black & white world. For a start, because I know most of us can only aspire to a lighter shade of grey, I don't worry too much if my own life isn't perfect. Being imperfect, I also don't need to sit in judgement over a whole group of people, most of whom I've never met, and pronounce them liars and cheats.

I think like someone said earlier these estate agents are closing as people are not dropping the price of their houses, hence no one will buy, there are a few properties that have come down due to forced sales.

But like someone said earlier most people dont need to sell, so they are just not dropping their prices.

I do feel sorry for anyone loosing there job but some of the estate agents i have had dealings with are proper bent, and i wouldnt believe a word they say.

Having said that im sure the odd one is okay, but im yet to find them.

There's too many of them. Get over it. I hope you showed as much sympathy for the coalminers etc. when they were deemed surplus to requirements. At least they were doing sometihng constructive
