  • i read that the average house sales for the majority of estate agents is one a month, whether that is true or not as it was the daily mirror is another story but i'm a contractor to clean windows for a lot of offices where i live and i've lost two contracts in the last couple of months that were estate agents, think it will be a countrywide problem.

I think estate agents will end up being run by one guy and a PC as most people search on line these days with a cuppa and a penguin rather than walking down the street looking in windows.

EA's have had it good over the last 10 years, now the lean times are here, and they're paying the price.

theres plenty of call centres for them to work in.
  • Im no fan of EAs but I find it quite disgusting that certain people class this as good news.

Fine EAs have had it good but so have many other sectors. I can guarentee you it wont be the owner of the EAs thatll suffer the most its all the staff (clerical, cleaners etc ) that it will hit the hardest, see above window cleaner for example

Spare a thought for all those a business going bust affects...

What I can't understand is why these agents haven't sent mailshots out to all their clients insisting they cut their prices, yes I understand people who bought in the last 3 years probably can't but I can't believe that the majority of clients are in would be in this position.

It seems they would sooner go bust then get people to reduce.

Surely sellers have TV's, newspapers, internet etc.. don't people realise HPI is over, its finished, 2007 prices have gone for a generation at least. If I knew I only had a month left, I would have compiled a dvd with all the news stories recently, newspaper clippings etc. and sent them out to all my sellers, with a note saying you must reduce by at 35% or we will refuse to market your property.

Surely all EA's are suffering at the moment, so you would think they could work together on this.

LOL. If you made your 35% demand, I think all your business would have gone to your competitor and you'd be looking at being bust within a week.

Don't forget, many selling actually have no real "need" to sell. Only those selling due to financially difficulty would have to consider selling at reduced prices, but they are likely to be the one's who overstretched in the last few years so can't afford to sell at loss. So a bit of a catch 22 situation for them.

The rest will just be people who would like to move (for schools, jobs etc.), but have no real necessity to move other than the convience or desire. You can spot them a mile away since they haven't dropped their prices in 6 months, or even longer than a year. They are obviously the one's who it would be good if they found a buyer, but if they didn't, they'll just continue on. But they wont sell at a lower price.

I think you will find many call centres are starting to cut staff and most have stopped recruiting. Business is hardly booming in any sector (unless you are working in a pawn shop or a balif I suppose).

It's not just a simple case of the estate agents and bankers are going to lose their jobs and house prices drop so everyone else wins. You'd be lucky if you are in an industry that isn't impacted by this. So I wouldn't go smirking at someone elses downfall, as it could easily be you next. (I'm pressuming you actually work, and aren't just a leech on society :) )

They don't have enough qualifications to work in a call centre. Sweeping the streets is a more likely option
