    1. NEVER use credit cards or bank cards, pay for EVERYTHING with cash
Paying with credit cards give you legal protection. Plus the money is the credit card companies not yours. On the other hand for common sense reasons be careful which retailers you use your debit card in.

If you are like the millions of people who work who are not able to get to the bank during the banking day then not using a bank card means you would never have any cash.

    2. NEVER use internet banking
    See part 2 above.

    3. NEVER apply for loans
Impossible for anyone who is a student in higher education or getting a mortgage.

    4. NEVER hire a vehicle or let anyone take a copy of your DL (remember, your dob is on your licence)

There are lots of occasions when you need to hire a vehicle because your own is too small either to transport a group of people or move stuff.

Snooze you obviously lead a sheltered life.

    5. NEVER give your real dob to ANYONE unless it can't be helped (IR etc)
That's the only one that is correct. Most companies only need your DOB or your mother's maiden name as a unique identifier therefore for non-financial things it's a good idea to use a made up one. And never send this information either real or made up to anyone by email.

Now getting back to the original issue of having to provide LAs with 3-6 months bank statements, that is easily overcome as you can buy novelty bank statements with any details on that you want. I know a good genuine source for them and they're 100% like for like with the real thing. PM me if interested.
LA don't need 3-6 months bank statements. It's just a lazy way of trying to state the tenant will pay the rent on time. It proves nothing as others said.

Some people will put a roof over their head as a priority others don't. Appearance, race, sex, social class, employment etc has nothing to do with it and LLs who have been around realise this so aren't interested in references etc. They may want to check up on whether someone is working for insurance reasons but there is an easy trick to doing this.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Hmm I stand corrected but to quote the rest of the paragraph which you conveniently left out for sensationalism purposes

"It is illegal not to register to vote in this country, although many people choose not to for various reasons and avoid punishment."

which basically translates as "we'd like everyone to be on the Electoral Roll ideally so that we can keep tabs on everyone but we realise that most people don't want 13 tonne of junk mail dropping through their letter box every day so we aren't too fussed if they choose not to be on it". But yes, you're right, the truth of the matter is that it's illegal not to be on it but then speeding is illegal is every does it so who cares? Not me.

If you want to believe I left it out for "sensationalism purposes" then you can think that if you want.

Yes... yes... okay... okay... I get the point. I made the post to alert people to the fact that it's not just cc details that are traded on underground forums like most people think. The point I was trying to make was that every time you do/use one of the 5 points I listed you are leaving yourself very vulnerable to having your !!! ripped by fraudsters. I fully realise that most of the points are impractical but the more you can cut them out and use cash only, the more your chances of getting your !!! ripped are reduced.

    So there you go.

So if you only use cash do you not use an ATM machine to get the cash out? These can be tampered with can't they?

I subscribe to various genealogy websites. It is quite easy to find out someone's dob from these as well of course as their mother's maiden name; dob also appears eg on your driving licence.

And of course if a fraudster happens to know you, they may well know your mother's maiden name anyway or can check it out by asking around.

Personally I think it is absurd to use either item as any kind of security check and the sooner financial institutions stop doing this the better.
