Davenport & Associates

I've got this letter throught from Davenport & Associates telling me that I've won £7,186,355(!!!) in a sweepstake and all I need to do to claim my prize is send them a cheque for £20! They are based in Canada and I have never entered a sweepstake based there.

So, watch out for these guys.

Also, I know you are supposed to report these sort of scams, but I can't remember whom to. Does anybody know?

I had one of these today. for the exact same amount of money as Laskshi7.
So be warned anybody who asks for money for a prize is a con merchant.
I had something very similar before and phone the local police station to ask what i should do about it. they weren't very helpful and told me people dont fall for these things. i know different. they do!!
    positive thoughts give positive outcome.
:A good luck to all of you. xx

I too have won this exact same amount, shocking!

My wife received something like this a while ago. She tore everything up into little bits but removed any pieces that had her name on, then wrote return to sender on the main envelope..

I'll bet receiving a letter full of shreddings was very nice for them.

  • In googling my firm name I came accross this post. I want everyone who reads it to know that this is not the Davenport & Associates law firm located in Montville, NJ. We have a great reputation and it is a shame that there is a scammer out there using the same name as my firm.

Given that MSE is a UK-based website, I don't think many members would be too concerned about your law firm.
  • we received a letter today in the mail asking for aud$30. its funny to think that a company all the way in the us can get info from australia and claim that we have won a prize. how stupid do they think we are. we havent even enter any comp to even win anything. does anyone know of a way to avoid them from obtaining our details? i have heard that one of the worst people are readest digest. apparently scammers like these can obtain info from readest digest and alot of others.

The problem is there are lots of people who are not as savvy as MSE readers or aware that these scum exist and will be taken in by them. There are many reports of older people who think they sound official and that they must have won the money. The £20.00 is only the start of it, it usually escalates to greater amounts.
Fill the envelope with all your junk mail, make it as heavy as possible and send it back to them unstamped. If enough people do this it might cost them a fair amount of money.

  • I´m from Portugal and i received allready 14 letters from them,5 of them in the same day,all with diferent prizes ,but all passing the $7.000,00dls

What i did was allmost the same as peter_the_piper, only i enjoy to draw some funny things,so i send them unstamped, and with some stinky hair gel between there papers, and also some peper in case they smell the perfume from the gel, think somebody is gonna snize for a while!!!:rotfl:
