Any electric fire will use as much power as it says on the rating plate, a 1kW fire will cost 10-12p an hour to run. All electric fires are 100% efficient.

If you have kids/animals would suggest an oil filled radiator type, otherwise halogen, fan or convector.

If you want instant heat then a fan heater is your best bet preferably one that has some sort of thermostatic control and various heat settings. As previously said electric is 100% efficient unlike gas which is much less.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

Is using a cooker's gas hob as a heater more efficient than using a combi-boiler and radiators?

I suspect it must be for heating the kitchen(as long as you don't use an extracter fan;) !

    Distribution of heat problematic!!!
