Standing order or British Gas Essentials?
Hi, I was able to open a bank account, so I wrote to Scottish Gas to ask them to take out the key meter so I could pay for gas and electric by direct debit. The guy who phoned me said I could have it taken out but as I was on benefit it would be as cheap for me to go on the Essential tariff and keep the key meter. Does anyone know what the best option would be?

Its a lot cheaper on direct debit imo
And you have more choice of tariffs from all the companies.
I would definitely get the meter taken out and go on to DD.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
The old essentials was set to match the old DD tariff (they held the last price rise until Apr 2009).
That tariff is now full, so you probably missed the boat and would be better off going for DD on an online tariff.0
