I am getting e-mails apparantly from everyone I have ever e-mailed whether friends, family, companies saying I have sent them an e-mail with this (pasted below) on.

has anyone else had this and does anyone know what can i do about it - apart from annoying everyone - more seriously all their e-mails addresses are now known to this person/organisation to do what they want with and am really, really concerned that whoever it is has accessed/can tell what e-mail addresses are in my mail box. It's a good chance it has been genertated from something I sent off for on the freebie forum- so warning to all.

V. concerned - can anyone help or tell me what to do - can they access the whole of my laptop, read things or just somehow find e-mail addresses? Does anyone know how I can stop it.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

looks like your antivirus/anti malware strategies aren't up to date, there is a sticky at the top of this thread worth reading.

Thanks so much for advice/replies - have just followed a link and am now doing a scan - so hopefully panic over. Does anyone know if the people who have received the mail from 'me' will now be infected?

Not sure, but its a fair chance you passed it on.

  • I've got this too.

I have just discovered however that it is getting sent out via the "vacation reply" service in hotmail. If you go to options and 'automated vacation reply' you can delete it.

I don't know how much the virus affects your computer tho but I can't detect it with any anti-virus software so we can hope that it was literally just a case of it adding that message to hotmail.

    Hope this helps.
  • I have just emailed hotmail support. I'll let you know what they say.
  • hello all,

I was on holiday in australia when i needed to log on to my hotmail account. i used a pay for hotel computer and sent my two emails on October 6th 2008.

When i next managed to log on about 4 days later, i had received non delivery notices. i opened them and thought 'hold on, i haven't emailed any friends'. then the penny dropped. i was livid.

I've sent apologies from a different email account but am currently trying to find out what damage this 'virus' does. 'Sophos' say it's spam but I want to know how it managed to put an autoreply on my account?

This 'trailblazer' email seems to have wreaked havoc to email accounts in france, spain and italy too.

The other thing that is of concern to me is that this email seems to have infected hotmail accounts of different people in different countries on the same date.

I, too, am going to try to email hotmail but their new 'live help' is a maze and i'm not getting anywhere at present.

If I find out anything then i'll post it here to keep the help and advice all in one place.

    good luck all.

I agree. For an email company they make it surprisingly hard to email them!
It took me ages to work it out but here's the link.
