in Credit cards
Hi guys I am new to the forums but I've been watching all your threads over the past few weeks.
I have applied for a few credit cards and been declined by Halifax One card it was the 12months 0% bear in mind. So I thought I was punching above my weight a little. So I've tried for Capital One card one of the high interest cards to get me started... But I did a credit check using Experian and my score was 629 out of 1000, they said it was Poor... So I am now thinking they defintley won't accept me.
I am in full time employment and have been for 2 years now. I am 19 years old living with parents. I have a loan (its a hire/purchase loan) for £5500 on a car I recently bought 2 months ago. I earn £1025 per month which is very good for my age I reckon.
Thanks.

Two points
1) Are you on the Electoral Roll.
2) You have a substantial debt already for a 19 year old.
You might be better off with a debit card for the time being...0 -
Yes I'm on the electoral role.
My debt, I really didn't think it was that big...

Depends what you want a card for, purchases or debt?
You will (I assume) have a current account, then go personally into your bank branch and ask about their credit card(s) and if it were possible to get one. If you do get one, you will start off with a small limit, use it for puchases and pay it off regularly and the higher limits will follow in time. It is often easier to get a credit card through a bank that knows you, than by applying blind. Setting up a small savings account often helps. For example with Egg or some other "bank" that supplies cards.
Lloyds TSB seem to lend to younger ppl, they let someone get £40k into debt, his mum bailed him out by remortgaging their house, and the banks did it again. I must add he was an internet gambler (22yrs old). LLoyds, Halifax and MBNA were the guilty parties for the second £40k.
