Hello,
My grandaughter has 'messed' up her computer.
She is getting the black screen with the white writing (sorry I do not know the technical terms) but she cannot get out of this screen.
She has admitted to closing the computer without closing the programmes that are open.
The screen is not the one that gives you the options ie, Esc, F? etc. It says malfunction etc...
Can anyone please tell me if she has done serious damage and/or can it be fixed?
The laptop is an Acer, if that helps.
Many thanks

You'll need to give more details of the error message that she is getting.
Often, laptops go into standby if they are closed without being shut down. If left in that state for a few hours, the battery will run out, which can leave the file system in an inconsistent state. If you're unlucky, one of the critical system files will be corrupt and it won't boot. However, it can almost certainly be fixed.0 -
We had something similar the other day. I turned it off (kept on/off button pressed in for a few seconds until it switched off), then switched it back on. Got a message windows had recovered from a serious error. However, make a note of what it says just in case (maybe take a photo of the message) it doesn't work and you need to look into it further.
I can't guarantee this will work in your case of course. My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
Thanks for your help.
I will have a look at it tomorrow and let you know the outcome.
