Car is write-off, accept offer?
Someone hit my car, and the insurance engineer says it is a write-off. It was the other persons fault. They made me an offer £1700, should i accept the first offer? They say i can keep the tax disk and claim my refund, but they don't take any notice that i had 3/4 full petrol in the car (worth £35) I have been using their courtesy car, but they will want that back soon and i will be left without any transport until i find another car:mad:

depends how much you think the car is worth0

How much do you reckon the car is worth? Is £1700 a fair price. You could reject their first offer if you think its too low. However they can take their courtesy car back and leave you without a car (or money to buy another) till you accept an offer.0

I don't know what the car is worth. My father bought it brand new nine years ago, and it was "given" to me 2 years ago, when he bought another new car. It is a Toyota Avensis GLS 1999, 115k miles and good condition. So, can i keep the courtesy car until i accept their offer? This would give me a week or two to find another car.Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club

OK, did an online search and there is one on sale in a garage near me, same spec. and milage , but one year older (1998) on sale for £1500, so i guess £1700 is not bad.Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club

You've answered your own question there then?!

In my experience I was able to haggle the price up with the explenation that it was a particularly well looked after model, clean etc... I was offered £1200 for an old Cavalier SRi, eventually got £1400

The general rule is don't accept the 1st offer how ever What Car says the might be fair.
