drive london to glasgow...where would you do a stopover

Options
on the way up...? other half does not want to fly so it looks like we will take the car after all to ayrshire. As it is 7 hours at least we thought we would break up the trip. any ideas of good places to stop on the way up either as en evening stay with little visit next morning for example. any tips appreciated. thanks

  • Cumbria is quite nice? We drove Glasgow - Dover in July and stopped in Kendall. It's lovely around that area and you can probably snaffle a cheap B&B at this time of year.
We only stopped for a lunch break, I actually did the full drive myself (including being stuck at Manchester for five hours!). We left home at 8am and got to Dover at 11pm, including the five hour traffic jam, a two hour lunch break and plenty of stops for the tiddlers.

Yes, I agree about Cumbria for a stop off, we stayed in Grange over Sands in July.

If there are two of you, drive it it one go, we regularly drive from Southampton area to Fife, so probably an extra hundred miles or so.

If you do it overnight, it's even easier, very little traffic about, mostly trucks, not many cars.

  • I've done the journey many times with my other half. We share the driving, just stopping at service stations for breaks. Prefer doing the driving through the night though as the roads are quieter.
