Am going wireless this week - hopefully. Aside from possible configuration problems, I keep reading things about changing passwords, and WPA settings. Anyone got a straightforward check list of do's and don't?????

Do all of the following from a wired connection:
Change the default password for logging in to your router's config screen.
Change the default wireless network name (SSID) and turn off broadcasting of that name.
Enable wireless access list and enter the MAC address of each wireless network adapter.
Enable WPA-PSK security.0 -
you don't necessarily have to adopt encryption. Just limit the dhcp server to the number of pcs you use and assign them ip nos. that no other pc can use.0

if you dont enable encryption, everything you type in and receive is sent in the clear, and anyone with a sniffer program can see everything you do, read your emails, passwords etc..
See the other recent wireless post for lists of what to do to secure it..
We need a sticky FAQ for this subject!Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
