How do I set up a Gas/Electric supplier to my new build 1 yr after moving in

Options
How do I set up my gas and electricity now I am in a my new house (new build)? The builder gave me a sheet with what I think was meter readings but I have not bothered doing anything as I thought they would contact me. I have been saving the money in my savings account of what I thought the bills would be but I have been in over a year now and would rather just get it dealt with now.

Any tips advice on who I should call to get this arranged? I’ve never had to do this before so I’m pretty clueless. I’ve been putting a sum of money away every month for it which is a generous approximation so paying the bill won’t be a problem.

Thanks,

CG :beer:

    I take it that you're unsure who is actually supplying you with gas /electricity? Use the numbers below to find out who it is then give them a call. Doing so will probably also generate a final bill for the builders for what they used so you may get them on the phone!

    If so you can give meter point helpline a call on 0870 608 1524 to find about gas.

    To find out about elec you need to call a different number depending on what area you are in ;

    For the Gas, you will need to be able to give them your Meter Point Reference Number plus the Meter Serial Number as well as the 'Start Meter Reading' and 'Current Meter Reading'.

    For the Electric they will want the MPAN number, Meter Serial Number and 'Start'/'Current' meter readings.

    They may also need the name of your builders and the original plot number of your property - as these will be what they received from the builders when the 'builders account' was set up.

    I would also say to double check who your 'Gas Transporter' is - the information should be inside the door/lid of your Gas Meter Cupboard. It's very often Transco, but not always. Ours is 'Independent Pipelines' - and some of my tenants have had nothing but problems trying to get registered and/or switch suppliers because of their delays. (I'm a Sheltered Scheme Manager).

    While you're sorting out your Gas/Electric - have you thought on about your Water Supply? Some of ours are still expecting to be contacted by the supplier, when you actually need to contact them yourself to let them know that you are the occupier.
