Swapping hot air central heating for boiler and radiators...

Options
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help...

We currently have a hot air gas central heating system in our bungalow which basically pumps hot air into our lounge from a big metal tank (very simplistic terms!). The system works fine and generally keeps the lounge very warm, however it doesn't keep the bedrooms very warm and as we are expecting a baby we want to get radiators put in instead.

I wonder if anyone can give me an idea of how much it is likely to cost to do this. We would need 3 radiators + heated towel rail and have the old system removed. We currently have a seperate hot water tank in an airing cupboard - would it also be possible to get rid of this and combine with the heating? As you can tell I don't know a lot about all this....

Thanks for any help!

yes you need to remove the old warm air system, its very inefficient.
then you will need a full combi gas boiler CH system. the old tank will not be required.
depending on where you live, you can budget say 3k/6k.
    Get some gorm.

Be aware that there may be asbestos in the unit and its surroundings.

A word of advice first - get some cardboard boxes and make them the size of your new radiators. Put them on the walls where the radiators will hang and see if you can still get your furniture in the room.

My neighbour had his warm air system replaced with wet radiators - you wouldn't believe how much space he lost in the rooms !

Sorry old chap, this is just not the case ! Warm air systems are generally more economical than radiator systems.

Many thanks for the advice. I'm still a bit confused as to whether hot air heating is effcieint or not but thats not really the issue for us - we just want heating throughout the bungalow so radiators are the best option I think. Plus I assume combi boilers are much smaller than the system we have at the moment so will create storage space where we lose the tank and heater.

    Thanks again!
