CTC and back claiming

(bit of background info) My friend (a non working single parent) has a son who is 11, he is recently diagnosed with ADHD, tourettes and aspergers.
We were talking about CTC the other day, and I found she didnt know what CTC was all about and hence has never claimed.
Can she make a claim, and request some back payment? Does anyone know how fair she can back claim? How does she claim as a new claimant?
thanks all x

she can make a claim and request up to 93 days backdating (3 months)
She just calls 08453003900 and they will do a quick calculation and then send her a claim packthe only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Is it possible that your friend claims Income Support for herself and her son? If so she wont qualify for CTC.
If she doesn't claim IS she should claim CTC, however backdating will only be for 3 months (93 days).0 -
Oh yes its IS that she claims. so she wouldnt be entitled to any CTC?
Thats a shame. £60 a week to live on must be !!!!. I was just hoping she might have got a bit, esepcially as her son is 11 now and just gone off to Seconadary school - he's getting more expensive.
Thanks letting me know. I'll give her the number anyway, you never know she might be lucky.0 -
Does she get DLA for he son? And she should also look at whether she would be better claiming income support for just her and ctc for her son as sometimes it works out better others its worse(mad seen as it also suppose to be the same amount).
If he does qualify for DLA then she could claim for carers for him - but again she would have to work out which would mean more money as she would get £50.55 carers but it does come off the income support but they then add a carers premium onto it. She would be better maybe going to see her local CAB who could do all the number crunching for her.
Also if she does qualify for DLA for her son her CTC would go up if he gets the higher rate care.0 -
She currently doesnt get any DLA, this was something we talked about also. I think she's looking inot it.
thanks

£60 a week for both of them? if so thats wrong get on phone to ctc in morning get it backdated
you can appeal to go back further takes time but is worth a shot get someone from cab ect to write appeal letter they have a way with words.
As for dla again get the cab to help fill in form they know what words ect they look for
when your friend phones ctc tell them she is applying for dla and if dla claim takes longer than 3 months you will still get the extra ctc backdated to day she informed them
good luckIf you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter
