    Arent chiropacters jumped up quacks?

At the very best its non-scientific and at worst, complete mumbo jumbo designed to make you poor. Not healthy.

I certainly would not pay any money to these people.

I have a long term problem that is improving slowly. I'm hoping it will go completely given time

Perhaps the same would have happened if someone hadnt been cracking your neck for the past x amount of time?

Mine practises McTimoney as well, very gentle, takes 20-30 min, no cracking. First time I went I did not think it was doing anything at all, but felt the benefit the next day.

Now I'm also doing regular pilates, it seems to stop me from getting quite as bad, single treatment every 6-12 months has been enough.

Violetta, once you have had what you paid for, shop around some more.
