Fixed Rate Halifax Web Saver 6months 7%

7% for 6 months seems pretty good even better than Kaupthing edge or other famous institutions for their high interest. Is there any catch with Halifax? Am thinking of opening an account with them. Would appreciate any help on this.

If the account it joint does it mean both parties are entitled to have up to 6k income coming from it tax free? Assuming there is no more income from elsewhere.

No catches (other than needing to open a Web Saver account too - an average account paying 4.21% - don't have to maintain more than 1p in it though!).

All things being equal, you're right on the tax front. Open it now and the interest will be paid in the next tax year.
