but I've been making inroads all the time. I can't take poring over my finances all the time - just makes me frustrated things aren't moving quicker. anyway latest is we should be totally offset by end of next year (hopefully october, but we're allowing for holidays and house stuff).
Total mortgage of £79k (at 1.5%)
Offsetting £30k
anyway hope everyone else is doing ok

Congrats Claire,
You and your DH have some good achievements on your mortgage.
I think you are right that it is hard to get the balance right on spend vs OP. The mortgage is such a long haul that I think you need some treats along the way.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
Ok so its been a while since my last post - about 10 monthsago - but progress hasbeen steady and consistent.
Anyway my quick update is:
Total mortgage: £68k
Total offset: £40k
Good luck to all those out there on the mfw journey!0 -
Well done Claire thats fantastic!!!
what are your top tips for keeping going at the MF challenge??0 -
Thanks Young One! Just one tip - don't obsess! Paying the mortgage down is something which takes time. Take the action you need to and review your budget on a regular basis (and to congratulate yourself when doing well) - but don't spend every waking moment obsessing about it or you'll end up wishing your life away in order to be MF. Live life now - it only happens once!0

Forgot to add my TARGET MF DATE IS 30 APRIL 2012...which builds in some spends on the way :-)0

You go girl! That ironically was a potential for completion of our mortgage too; I've just read back your diary to see how far you've come and how by regular overpaying you've taken years off your mortgage - very well done that womanFeb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Ok, I need to let off some steam! Love my job and appreciate having one even though no pay reviews for last three years. Understandable - I get it - current climate bad - no problem.
Anyway this year we are all informed a pay review is being done and the news is positive and will be communicated face to face by your line manager. So... my manager says everyone is getting a 3% raise across the board - great, am happy. It doesn't beat inflation but every little bit helps.
He also says he's been delighted with my performance (have taken on extra responsibilities and with enthusiasm) and nominated me for an extra pay award and is pleased to say it's been approved. I say wow, am made up - thanks v much. I ask - is it a one off bonus or an extra amount on the salary? He says on salary and then gets out a calculator to double check figures he's got in front of him.
He then says, oh it's not been included in your May pay packet so 'erm sorry it's actually probably not been approved. Will check but sorry about that.
What the F**k!?
To be honest, am over it already but need validation of his idiocy...now for a drink!0
