Just bought a scecond hand car from a dealer it rand for a day advice please.

Hello all.
I have made a huge mistake and was hoping for some advice.
Last week (Thurs) I went to a dealer down the road from me to buy a second hand car that was on the fore court. I paid on my credit card for this car (hoping this might me a redeeming feature!) It was a very cheap car as I cannot afford alot and really needed a car to get the job I have been wanting tro get.
That very night the car started overheating and would not start. I took it back to the dealer who took it to his friend to get something fairly simple done. I was also informed that the battery needed charging and that everything should be fine now. I took it back and used it succesfully for another day untill today. as I was trying to close the window the glass wouldnt go up. then the alarm started going off and would not stop. The car is still outside making a noise and will not start and the alarm will not go off. I think I have made a big mistake with this car and after road tax insurance and the car itself am almost £1500 out of pocket of monmey that IU dont have. I also have no car ad no chance of getting this job. Im really frustrated and upset and have no idea what to do. do I have any rights? what do I do? can anyone offer any advice or is this just another mistake I have to deal with and move on?

First thing to mate is go and take the neg off the battery shut that alarm up or else you might have someone coming round and knocking you out.

If you bought it sold as seen - unlucky mate.

If i was you id go back to the knob who sold you the lemon and tell him you want a refund. He must have known the car was kaput. If he refuses threaten court. If you go to court argue he has ripped you off over the car etc. You might win - you might not.

reject the car. inform the garage that you are not happy and you are intent on rejecting the vehicle as it is not fit for purpose.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

I know if I bought it from a private person I would be screwed. But I was hoping a garage had some form of rules attatched to it. The alrm had now shut up I assume the battery has now died. this will mean I will need to bump start it tomorrow to taske it back to the garage and have no idea if this will cause the alarm to go offf again. I cant believe I have just forked ouyt for tax and insuarance for a car i cant even use now.

What’s the car? How much did you pay?

The overheating could have been the fanbelt that went. That would also result in the battery being flat if the belt drove the alternator. The window not going up, if its electric, and the alarm going off are all signs of a flattening battery. It could be that either the battery is duff as well or if you only did a short journey, it didn't get charged enough.

Sadly we're at the time of year when any batteries which have been borderline will suddenly pack up due to the very cold nights.

    how so?

based on the work that's already been carried out?

thought it would be handy should they decide to take legal action.

    markelok is right

    have a look at this;-
    http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/thinking_about/cars/dealer#named2

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/CARS/buying/your_legal_rights.jsp
they also have advice about how to go about buying used cars (including what to look for yourself even if you dont know much about cars)

as the car isnt driveable, you shouldnt have to try and take it back to them at this point.
