if you are worried about the cost of vaccinations etc...should you really be considering buying two kittens? they are expensive little beasites...flea treatments, wormers, good food, all costs money..where their health is concerned, cheapness does not pay. My 6 yr old male, cost around £30 per month, with his insurance, money for vacs, food, flea and wormers. if you have two, you need to double that.

Also please do not breed from your kitten, there are plenty of animals stuck in rescue and being PTS because there is no where for them to go. The world does not need another litter of kittens.

The otherway of thinking of it,...if she has the kits and dies, what then? how will you cope/afford it? what if she has 6 kits and none of them sell? what will you do then?
  • Well, thank you all for your feedback. I have followed the links you have posted and evaluated the pros and cons (and, yes, there are pros) and decided not to breed my girl. I absolutely follow the logic of what you have said and your reasoning made up a large part of why I have decided it wold be infair in many ways to allow her to breed.

However, several of you (although by no means all) were rather reactionary and I felt rather insulted by some of your comments. I made my decision based on the factual information you collectively provided, not the way it was presented but I hope you don't put anyone else off making the right decision.

Well, a good decision and fair comment, but I think you will have to excuse the reactions - many of us are exasperated that people are still thinking of breeding when more and more animals are being abandoned and PTS every day - as breeding is the process that actually creates this outcome. There are just far more cats and dogs already in existance than there are good homes for them.

As a result, I guess many of us (myself included) are a bit quick to jump up and shout 'Aaargghh, Nooooo, Don't, Do Not Do It!' when we read of someone else thinking of adding to the overpopulation of pet animals, especially whn so many shelters are struggling with the effects of the credit crunch.

However, I am sure your intentions are good, and that your cats will have a lovely home with you.

hi purplebiro - thanks for listening and taking things onboard. you have just saved about 4 or kittens/cats lives by making this deciion. :T

if i offended you or you felt attacked I apologise, but as FC says above, it's such a needless thing to do and many people feel exasperated by people who intend to breed - there are no benefits to breeding, especially when so many pets are being dumped (more so now that the credit crunch is hitting).

    thank you
