Buying PS3 from US

Hi I know that a PS3 bought in the US will work in the UK in terms of power supply and tv system, can someone help with the following questions please?
1. Will all UK games work in a US bought console?
2. How difficult will it be to buy region free/region 1 bluray DVD's in the UK?
3. If I buy a UK PS3, will hardware bought in the US be compatible?
Thanks folks!!

I don't think it's worth the hassle. You would need a step down transformer of sorts because the voltages are different. I believe the PS3 is region free for games. You can get region 1 DVDs here or you can buy online from the US. Additionally if it breaks Sony UK are unlikely to listen so you would be up the spout if it broke.
  • Hi

There may be an issue with the display being NTSC in USA and PAL in the UK.
At worst it will appear in Black and White.
prob require a TV / monitor that can handle either PAL/NTSC.

surely it is better to get a EURO PAL version ?
i am guess you are after a 60 or 80 gig version ?

as these are very rare over here i was lucky to get one last
    christmas for £370 ( 60 GIG ) version.

play.com still have ps3 60 gigs for sale but are around 600 pound

Upto now I know of no gaming issues with regions. But I think it will only be a matter of time before they start to 'region lock' games.
Region 1 blurays are fairly easy to get a hold of via Ebay etc. Quite a few are region free ~

    Personaly ~ I wouldnt bother

Thanks folks, but PS3 bought in the USA do not need step down transformers, they are dual voltage and they work on pal also, as I previously stated, was just wondering about games and dvd availability and compatibility since an 80gb PS3 is about £200 in the US, with a uk guarantee if anything goes wrong. Thanks anyway:confused:

if you do buy from the US you could end up paying VAT as it hits customs...so may actually work out more expensive once delivery VAT etc gets added on
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

Amazon.co.uk have the 80GB model in stock for £289.

The 80GB model from Amazon.com is $399, which will cost you £225 if you get a good exchange rate. Then you have to add on the VAT of around £40, plus the customs clearing charge of let's say £5. That brings us up to around £270. That's not including delivery.

Many online stores deliver US Blu Ray to the UK.

Try: http://r1.find-dvd.co.uk with a search for a film and then select the BluRay version, it will list the cheapest places to get them from.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

In terms of games at least, no PS3 game has yet been region coded, so any game from around the world can play on any PS3. The capablility is there though, and there's nothing stopping them from using it in the future. Worth the risk? I don't think so.
