Hi there
We bought a second hand PC and the previous owner seems to have attached his name to the C and D disc drives. Is there anyway that I can modify and/or delete this? I'm using XP Pro SP3.
Thanks!

I think you go to
start -> control panels -> use classic value -> admistrative toold -> computer management
and then on the left there should be a list with an item saying disk management
click that then you should see the disks you have installed, and if you rightclick on them I think you can change the properties.
I'm not entirely sure if this is 100% correct, since i'm not using xp atm, but I'm pretty sure its down these lines. Any problems, just let me know0 -
This is how it displays the folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\Favorites
Not the end of the world but a bit annoying. Any ideas?!?0 -
So you just want to change the driver names?
If so, go to my computer, right click on the drive you want to change, scroll down to rename and change the name.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
It seems you are wanting to change the username that the previous owner used. You can find instructions of what is involved here.
It would be simpler to create a new user account, which instructions can be found here.
You could then simple copy the contents of the previous user My Documents, Favourites etc to your new user account. You can find instructions on copying here.
Hope that helps

Personally if I'd bought a 2nd hand pc I'd want to reinstall windows from scratch for a variety of reasons: Good faith for the previous owner that you won't see any previous personal info, personal security (not just previous owner deliberately leaving keyloggers on but also unintentionally having pc infected, the only person I trust with making sure a pc has been used securely is me), registrations and licenses still held by previous owner (could cause problems installing/reinstalling software in both registering/activation and legal issues), pc running and general speed and effectiveness may be "clogged" up from previous use, especially if a lot of software was unistalled prior to being sold (redundant registry entries etc).
It just seems strange to me to not want to completely start anew with it. It'd be like buying a mobile phone secondhand but using the previous owner's sim card and contact list."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
