As a complete technophobe, how does a pvr work.? I am considering buying a new tv with freeview built in and would like to record our basic 5 channels and all the freeview channels. Can someone explain simply how it works, what you have to do and what type of tv/pvr do you recommend- elderly people have to be able to understand and work it too. Thank you

You could try a TV with the PVR built-in, like this Humax - http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/dtv_lcd32_lgb-32tpvr.asp
Simpler for the elderly with only one remote control too, I'm always trying to explain to my parents the difference between Freeview from the TV tuner and Freeview channels from the PVR input. It took them a while to cope with the PVR as they had used his'n'hers tapes on the VCR!:rolleyes:0 -
Ideally, don't buy depend on the Freeview built into the TV. I have word that the spectrum could well change, to increase the amount of channels avaliable.
For a PVR, I would just go and buy one. It's not that much of a problem now, but earlier on they used to crash all the time, and so you'd have to switch it on and off all the time. Not amazing if it's built into the TV.
However the one I have is brilliant, it cost £35, second hand, and records 40 hours of TV. In face, I have two
