advice on problems with tiler

Hi all,

got a question for you all,

About 3 months ago I asked a local tiler, who has done a lot of my familys bathrooms and kitchens to do me a quote for some work, which included tiling a bathroom floor and walls, and some minor modifications. and to tile the kitchen floor. he quoted me just under £900 pound which was low cos he was a friend on my inlaws, and the job would take 2 weeks. we got the quote on headed paper and paid the deposit ( which he still hasn't given me a recipt for) and we set a date, that date was 4th august.

Fast forward to today and we still have a half finished bathroom and kitchen, jobs outsatnding (and all included in the quote) paneling in of the bath, paneling in of pipes for toilet and sink, rehanging and connecting the radiator, re fitiing the extractor fan and grouting the kitchen floor. and as well as that repairing the leak that wasn't their before (and which my two year old daughter keeps slipping over on) connecting the sink taps the right way round and about a dozen other little things.

It's getting to the point where i want to finish things of myself and he can whistle for his money, but where do i stand???? he has done work that he hasn't been paid for yet, he has also known about the leak for 6 weeks and i havn't seen him yet.

all help gratefully recieved as always

What was the deposit for, was it for materials or was it an advance on wages.(always a no no) I should just tell him to lump it. He has probably got a better paid job elsewhere. If he has done work for which he has not been paid, tell him to send you the bill and pay it if you think it is reasonable.
Then get on and finish it your self or get a local handyman to finish the bits and pieces. It sounds more of a handyman job than a tilers anyway.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
