Hi there,
We are having a constant technological battle with our Sky+ box. We have now been told by the sky 'helpdesk' that there is nothing more that we can do and we will have to pay for someone to come out to us.
This is something that I am lothed to do as Sky gets enough money off me per month for the service, that one would aassume that if there is a problem with their equipment whilst you are paying for the service, then the repairs and call outs should be included..
Anyway, rant over. My point for posting was to see if anyone knew of a cheap altenative to paying for either a warranty (£120) or for a call out (£65 + parts). I have looked on ebay and I don't really want to get one off there because of lack of come-back, but wondered if anyone could help!
Sorry for the ramble, but thanks for reading!!

What problem are you actually having?
If you are out of your 12 month contract then just phone up cancellations and threaten to leave and explain why.
I have done this a few times and funny enough they soon wave the callout charge.0 -
You're not losing channels by any chance are you? I started a thread yesterday to say that I have suddenly started getting blank channels, mainly in the low 300 numbers and Sky say they have no explanation for it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The problem that I am having is that it is constantly freezing and losing signal. The most annoying thing is that I can be in the middle of recording something and I have to unplug it at the wall to free it up again. So very annoying....0

Not sure if it still works, bit last time I had a problem I phoned up to say I was cancelling.
When they asked why, I said I was going to Virgin as they'd offered me a good deal and I was fed up with the problems I was having with the Sky box.
They waived the call out charge and any other subsequent repair fees. Engineer was out 2 days later and we got it sorted.
I am on the top package though, so don't know if that swayed them to try and retain me.Dave. :wave:0 -

Sounds to me like a bad connection (probably to the actual 'dish'). Thats worth just having a go yourself (If your competant enough)
Or maybe theres something in WAY of the signal? (tall trees etc?) ~ not a great deal can be done about that unless it CAN be moved elsewhere that would be clear of the problem:idea:0 -
As others, just phone up to cancel and tell them why.
I've never personally known anyone have to pay.
The reason they want to charge you is it is your equipment.
Would be like asking Disney to replace your DVD player when it fails, or asking the BBC or ITV to replace your TV.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
