Hi everyone I was hoping for some advice, My granddad is travelling to India this month and he turned 80 not so long ago. I've tried looking everywhere for travel insurance for him, but seems like companies just won't provide it... The only one I found that does travel insurance for over 80's was Columbus Direct and they quoted over £450!
Any advice on what to do?
Thanks in advance!

I have no experience with them but Age Concern offer travel insurance with no upper age limit. It may be worth getting a quote from themSomething Really Interesting0

i have recently had that problem for my nan to take her to canada next year to visit my aunt, (she is 79 now but will be 80 when we travel) the highest we had quotes from were around 480 and funny enough these were the companies that should specialise for older people (saga and age concern) the one we ended up getting a cheaper quote from (and high enough cover) was direct line at around £150 for single trip insurance for 2 weeks next year, (including that we declared her diabetes and hypertension but wont be covered for these under policy)
i found this article helpful http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance and also used moneysupermarket.com to help get a couple more quotes for companies, one thing you may find, is that due to the age of the person, some of the insureres wont accept quotes a long way ahead of time, which is a risk if you have already booked the tripMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

We went with Egg who do up to 86 for single trips.
We did not specify any conditions, so we just "winged it" there.0 -

My dad is 89 and only got his first passport 3-4 years ago!
He gets his travel insurance from Marks & Spencer, around £40 for Europe I think.0
