Blocking websites with Firefox

Options
Does anyone know how prevent access to certain websites in Firefox as I'm getting stuff installed on the PC from all the crappy mp3 sites one of the kids keep going on?

A Google search hasn't been fruitful.

You can do this via some routers or another option is to use web filtering software.

Where would one find this web filtering software?

I'd suggest updating to version 1.5 if you haven't already. It has better pop-up blocking and stronger security too. You could also get the Adblock extension https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=10 or use apps such as spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareBlaster isn't all that useful for Firefox users; its primary function is to block malignant ActiveX controls, which are only used by Internet Explorer as far as I am aware.

    From here:
SpywareBlaster can be used with Firefox but there's not much point as Firefox doesn't need to be protected against ActiveX exploits.

If you are using Microsoft Antispyware, Ad-Aware Pro or other anti-spyware utility with a real-time monitor, you don't really need it.

Here's a sneaky idea; add the addresses of these 'crappy mp3 sites' to your hosts file and you'll be able to redirect any attempts to connect to them to the site of your choice!

No, but some sites still require IE so it can be useful for that. But yea, the host file idea will work. :)
