Sky + Telephone Cable Question

Hello

I have Sky + downstairs and another Sky + upstairs with multiroom. Finally getting around to tidying/routing all the cables/wires properly, which is becoming a bit of a pain upstairs as the telephone wire to the sky box will need quite a bit of work to make look good. Anyway, 2 quick questions -

(1) Do I actually need the line attached to the box upstairs? What does it actually do? Is it just for ordering movies, etc (i.e. thats the reason Sky insists on it being attached) or does it also provide software updates, etc.

(2) If I decide to route the BT line cable and the Sky coax cable together in the same trunking is this ok? Have heard that there are certain types of cable you shouldn't route together due to interference

Thanks

1 if you had the multi room for over a year then no you don't need it connected, The reason you need it connected is occasionally they will ring the box to check it's there and make sure you haven't given it to someone else..

    2. Comms cables can run together but comms and power should cross at right angles, as the Sky coax only has 15V DC going up it you should be fine

    Hope this helps.

For an easy life its probably best to have them connected.

As Lee says the boxes regularly call back to Sky, if the callbacks fail or show the boxes are indeed at different addresses Sky will write to you and ask for them to be connected. If the callbacks continue to fail Sky conclude the mulitroom box is at your Spanish villa and increase your Direct debit to the equivalent of two separate subs.

I believe the callbacks take place roughly monthly and continue for the life of the contract, they dont stop after a year.
