I dont really understand all this fuss for a hdmi cable that is NOT 51p as stated in title, but actually well over £4, yet only a few days ago, I posted of a gold plated hdmi cable at ebuyer for £2.99 delivered which soon got 'lost' amongst the other great tips here! The greatest trick the electrical retailers ever managed to pull off was persuading us we should spend 10% of our equipment budget on cabling.

Re the £2.99 cable in Home Bargains - well worth it, bought one a few months ago, can not fault it.

There's some justification in the case of analogue cabling, but none in the case of digital (e.g. HDMI) cables, unless need an unusually long run, say 5 metres or more. For most people, a £2 cable and a megabucks one from Comet (or whatever other shysters sell them at grossly inflated prices) will perform identically.

It's not really a scam as such, as it's Amazon who set the postage charges, not the third party seller, but yeah, you do need to factor the postage in.

What he's saying is that it doesn't matter. The signal is digital. The quality of the cable does not affect the quality of the digital signal it carries. Buy a cheap one, as money spent on a more expensive one is a waste.

Oh, and for the friend of the Xbox fan...sorry, but your mate's talking out of his backside. Unless your source is metres away from your TV, then a cheapo cable will do just as good a job as an expensive cable.

It only carrrys zeros and ones so it does not matter.

The only reason they got away with selling 60 quid cables is because only people with new tellys needed them and they tended to be very expensive sets so folk would shell out.

You're not comparing like-for-like as Scart is analogue, and will benefit from a more expensive (better shielded) cable.
