I have had my amstrad digibox for about 6 years and up till yesterday it worked fine. Now it wont turn on either by the remote or by pressing the button on the front it just stays on standby,I have tried unplugging and leaving it off but still no luck.Theres no prob with the sky dish as I have borrowed an old Grundig box and that works.
I havent phoned sky yet as I think they are going to want £60 or something like that to come out.

have you checked to see if there is an in-line fuse in the back, i'm pretty sure there isn't but it's worth a try, if there isn't then it sounds possibly like the psu inside has died, if thats the case then you'll need a replacement0

If you want to stick to a standard digibox, you should be able to pick up a second hand box from ebay for £20-£30.Dave. :wave:0

if the box is stuck on the red standby light then you need to do what sky call a forced download, let me know! You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0

If the receiver is stuck on standby, the OP will not be able to carry out a forced download, not that it would make any difference in this case.:rolleyes:0 -
Phone up and cancel, when they ask why, tell them there is no point in paying for a subscription if the box don't work, they will offer half price, push them further and they will offer a free fix, never personally known anyone have to pay. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Of course you can carry out a forced download, thats the whole point of it. It enables you to upate the software in the digibox & sometimes allows the box to go from the red light to green. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -

If the box is stuck in standby, a forced download will not function, in any case, unless the receiver has been unplugged for a long time, it will have received downloads automatically.
The receiver is 99% certain stuffed.0 -
BexTech is right - told an elderly friend to stand up to them and push the point that a subscription to a service INCLUDES servicable equipment to get that service, and threaten cancellation if not supplied - engineer and newbox, next day, no charge.:beer:This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
