Fitting a digital timer to A Worcester Bosch boiler?

Hi all,

I have a relatively new Worcester Bosch boiler (Greenstar 24i Junior). I use the timer device on the boiler, I have a Honeywell thermostat in the lounge and all of my rads have thermostats on them.
My mother in law has a digital boiler control pad that she (or more accurately I!) programme in a detailed 7 day heating routine.
When I asked my British Gas service engineer he said that I too could have one of these, by simply replacing my Honeywell thermostat in the lounge with a digital control pad. He told me it was simply like wiring a plug.
Anyone know if this is the case? I did look in the Screwfix catalogue and was a little bamboozled by the amount of timers on offer - any advice on that front?
Any help appreciated.

This is a very simple task to accomplish, especially as you have a combi.

All hard-wired programmable room thermostats are battery operated and simply operate a relay when there is a demand for heat.

Your existing room thermostat performs the same function but lacks the ability to be programmed.

    So, the procedure is:-
    • Make safe the boiler by removing the fused spur fuse or unplugging it – do not simply turn it off
    • Remove the existing room thermostat
    • You will find that there are two wires connected to it
    • You may find that some other wires are not connected - ignore these
    • Connect the two wires to the new programmers “C” and “NO” terminals
    • Fix the programmer to the wall
    • Turn the boilers timer to “constant”
    • Turn the boiler back on
Job done. Get a competent heating engineer or sparks in if you are unsure about any of this.

Great thanks for that, sounds like even I could do it!
So now just need to acquire the timer. Any recommendations from out there?
  • I am intrested in this too, its something I wanted to do for many years now.
