cutting skirting board

hello i have just redecorated my living room e.g. wallpapered, new carpet, and now my girlfriend has decided she wants a new fire suite which is fine apart from the fact that i now need to cut a section of skirting board out so i can get fire flush with wall , how can i do this without damaging the wall paper and carpet, also i don't want to remove skirting as its only on plaster board and Ive had bad experience in another room removing it. i have found a great tool Bosch PMF 180E All Rounder 3 In 1 Multi Tool but it is around £60 - £70 and i cant afford that. does anyone have any ideas of how i can remove this section of skirting without damage please.

thank you

You may be better off cutting a section from the back of the fireplace and butting it up to the existing skirting board.

I drilled lots of little holes vertically as close together as i could, then got a chissel to join the holes up and eventually the small piece of skirting came free.Very time consuming but alot better than pulling off the full length of skirting :)

Nice fire. Probably, squiggles has the right idea in this situation. Not a very professional solution, but, what works, works. A bit of filler and a paint touch up and no one will ever know. Remember to think the whole job through in advance, next time.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

itll prob be easier and cheaper/quicker, to remove the old skirting and replace it if required.
    skirting is very cheap.
