E.on to Npower - Meter Problems

I recently changed from E.on to Npower, whilst with E.on I was on the heatwise tarriff, which apparently no one else does, and not many providers can accept you as a new customer if you have one of these meters, anyway, whilst on E.on I noticed my bills were extremely high, I just put this down to E.on being overly expensive.

I changed to Npower on the 12th September, and received a final bill from E.on for £76 (for five weeks supply - in a 2 bed flat, and one occupant).

I called Npower for some adivce (as my meter still has not been changed, and an account number has not been produced either due to problems with said meter) and we got talking about the cost of that bill, he agreed it was fairly high, and I should start checking it daily, to see how much I am using. I have done this, and found that my offpeak (I have four readings) display is not changing, only my peak. I have spoke to Npower who advised me if it is wrong, they will refund me the difference, but how do they, or me know what I am using/have used?

They are saying they cant book an engineer until my account number has been produced, and they cant produce an account number until an engineer has visited to check the meter serial number etc, I am the end of my teather, and just really cant see an end to this, I cant get any answers off anyone....

  • It's a dual Mpan supply. I didn't think Npower could take these at all. 1 mpan has to be disabled and I think they can't take the supply until this is done (this requires a meter change in most circumstances before you move which Eon charge £50 for).

Heatwise is a convenience tariff rather than a competitive tariff which is why you don't get capped rates offered etc.

My guess is that after an annoying frustrating time with Npower when thay can't get your supply sorted out they'll boot you back to Eon.

Hopefully for your sake I'm wrong but you'll see lots of similar posts on the forum about Heatwise and E10 issues.

If you do end up back at Eon you may be able to make better sense of the Heatwise set up and make it work more effectively for you. Good luck.
