would I get any help??

HI there guys
If anyone can shed any thoughts on my situation I would be most grateful...

Situation is, I am in a really secure job, hubby is normally house hubby for our 2 kids and my mum, however he has got very ill, and may have motor neurone disease, is just being investigated at mo for this, so at mo he is not well at all. I have had to go sick from work due to stress of everything at the mo. If I decided to take a career break form work for say 1 yr(or more depending on hubby) would I be entitled to any help re benefits etc??
I dont want to just resign as I unfortuntately need to think of the future and my 2 kids.
I am not sre whether they will feel that i left my job willingly but it would not be that, its because I would need to be there to care for for my hubby and kids, mum etc.
Any views???

Thanks xxx

If your oh has care and or mobility problems, has had them for 3 months and is likely to have them for a futher 6 months then he should apply now for dla,if he gets dla at mid or higher rate care you can then if you are earning under £95 per week claim carers allowance which is around £55 per week, you may then qualify if not working for income support, but if your mum lives with you that could cloud the issue a little,of course you would also get ctc.
Sounds like a complicated situation which needs professional advice maybe from welfare rights or CAB

Thanks Woodbine, yes you are right its very complicated!
You say apply for dla , he has been ill for quite a while longer than 3 mths but not as bad, hes only been bad the last 2 mths, so may have to wait a bit. I may book an appt with cab to go through things.

Your OH should be able to get DLA still, so long as he has been ill for 3 months or longer, or if his prognosis is that he is likely to pass away soon.

You would be able to get Carers Allowance. Your OH shuld be able to get Incapacity Benefit if he has paid enough NI, if not it will be income support. You should also be able to put in a claim for income support. I'm not sure about benefits for children that you have. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'd advise you to get intouch with Welfare Rights (part of your council) or CAB - either of them will be able to help you with forms and tell you about entitlements better than I can.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
