What to give a dog that chews

Can anyone suggest something that I can give a 10 month old Boxer to chew? I am looking after it while the owner is in hospital and it must always have something in its mouth! I want to give it something to avoid it finding its own unsuitable items i.e shoes, wires, the door frame.

I was visiting a friend before and her puppy was chewing a plastic watering can!

my dog does not chew anything except real bones, she shows no interest in chew toys etc. She will chew those rawhide bones, but only when they belong to another dog!! (give her one of her own and no interest at all!)

I would go to Wilko and get a nylabone type thing or one of those pressed rawhide bones (not the knotted ones, I believe they can be dangerous) but maybe someone with a chewer can povide personal recommendations...

It is the only thing that has ever survived and it is designed to be chewed. We've had it ages and it's still like new. Harley has it in his mouth every day so it gets well used.

I am NO expert believe me but have been reading up on dogs recently!! and people swear by those KONG things

You can fill them and put them in the freezer and it takes them ages to get the treats out therefore stopping the need to chew things.

Bella our springer has the rawhide chews and touch wood has never chewed anything she shouldn't.
She does go through them quickly so they are costing a fortune to buy.
She has a Kong but isn't really fussed with it.

There are plenty of food dispensing toys out there, Kongs are great as their design/shape makes them encourage chewing/mouthing. Nylabones and similar are also good, as are good old raw bones from the butcher. My dogs also like 2 litre pop bottles with the top removed and maybe a few bits of hard food in them, ragger toys (knotted ropes), tennis balls (the more expensive the better they stand up to being chewed, believe me, my dog is tennis ball obsessed!)

My brother puts a treat or something that rattles in an empty milk carton for his loopy labrador and she spends ages chasing it up and down and chewing it.

He's teething just like a babby. Get a good large beef bone from the butchers, he'll be very pleased with it, and it'll keep his tetth clean and white.

Kongs are good because as well as the chewing it entertains them.
A breeder once told me that when puppies chew to smear things like cables table legs etc with vaporub as dogs hate the smell and wont go near it.It doesnt stain your furniture either.I have to say I did try it out of desperation and it does work.
