ecomomy 7 and day readings wrong way round
Options
After having meter changed by N Power around 6 years ago from old to digital I noticed big changes in charges. After contacting them was told due to increase in charges etc and meter readings were correct. Now after checking meter hour by hour for a day have realised that meter readings have always been taken wrong way round , therfor being charged day rate for ecomomy 7 heating and water and night time rate for day units used . This has resulted in summer bills being roughly average but winter bills between £500 and £600 . I have been overcharged for 50,000 day units and undercharged 50,000 night units . they are sending an engineer to check meter in around 3 weeks but at the moment we are freezing as cant afford the economy 7.

If you are not on a prepayment meter, put your heating on if you 100% sure the readings are back to front. The meter should have a card attached which showing the readings when the meter was exchange. With those and an old bill (before latest increases) recalculate your bill for the whole period and deduct what you have paid (if you know). That should be the least refund you could get.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

E7 day vs night rate is usually around half so if you have paid incorrectly at the higher day rate then you can get a very easy idea from that. There's also a spreadsheet on the forum that someone put together that could help you calculate things.0

Transposed reads are more common that you might think (Somehting i ran in to a lot when i worked in billing)
If your'e not on a PP meter, use the economy 7. They'll re-bill your account from your meter exchange reads up to your current ones and with any luck that will fix your bill an dput you in to credit which you can then re-claim.0
